The Eye Behind the Camera

“The beauty of photography is not in the images we capture, but in the Journey we take to find them….”

This is my Life. Welcome.

Whether you found this blog on purpose or not, I’m glad you’re here. If we haven’t met, then let me be the first to say hello. I’m Julie Dentt, owner of Journey of the Lens photography & this is my Journey.

As a college student studying at the American International University in London in a post 9-11 world, I was pretty certain I knew what I wanted to do with my life & it involved one of two paths: 1) Become the next Christiane Amanpour and live in some exciting & dangerous country reporting for a prestigious news network as the newest heroine of journalism or 2) Become a spy & work in US Intelligence. Little did I know God had other plans for my life.  And oh, am I glad he did! It was while living abroad where I took my first black & white photography course & was introduced to documenting life’s journeys (and my own!) through the perspective of the camera lens. My eyes were opened to seeing the world from a new point of view & I fell in love with learning (doing) life with a camera in hand. And I never looked back.

Fast forward six years & today is where you’ll find me…so thankful to be able to do what I love. I can’t imagine doing anything else with my life than what I’m doing now: sharing in this amazing Journey called life with the most beautiful & fascinating people across the planet. Documenting their stories, their life, their loves, and their most sacred memories.  I love capturing those once-in-a-life moments, those split-second expressions. I love to create a series of photos that tell a story, those details you might only barely see at a quick glance but forever relive through a photo. My passion is to give people the memories that they’ll cherish for the rest of their lives in the form of beautiful and unique photographs. A different kind of reporting & intelligence, certainly; but still telling the story in the best way I know how.

Thanks so much for stopping by. If you’re interested in having someone document that next important moment in life, we’d love to hear from you!

Be well in your Journey today….

 JULIE DENTT
